With the overcast and rainy days it can be hard to keep motivated, but spring is only around the corner and soon those sunny Daffodils will be popping up to greet us. With brighter days to come, we have put together a selection of activities to keep you inspired and creative whilst we are at home.

Richard Francis Bellin, one of our resident artists at The Base, shows you the different techniques to create different landscapes. Whether you are wanting to try something new or develop your skills, Richard will offer accessible instruction via video on painting and drawing techniques and skills, which will enable you to explore your own creativity. We might not be able to give you an insight into our Artist Studios at the moment but you can enjoy seeing inside Anita Taylor's studio. Anita is one of the most influential voices in contemporary drawing. Watch the video here

BBC MAKE!
If you are missing in-person craft sessions as much as we are, then take a look at the BBC series MAKE!. With a whole host of videos including how to make a jumping frog, origami or learning about the process of letterpress printing, there are lots that will help get your imagination running wild!

Join The Base resident artist Cáit Gould as she takes you through some simple techniques with clay. From creating a simple bowl, a tea light holder to lidded boxes and a pencil holder, Cáit’s accessible instruction and demonstration provides the perfect activity for children or adults to stay creative with clay at home. Fancy a creative challenge with household items? The Getty Museum in Los Angeles is asking people to select their favourite artwork and recreate it in three objects from their homes. Find out more.

'My Wild life' competition
- deadline now extended!

We have extended the deadline for the 'My Wild Life' photography competition to Sunday 21 February! Budding photographers of all ages and expertise can enter – whether it’s capturing an image of insects in your back garden, wildlife discovered on a family walk or snaps of your beloved pet… we are looking for creative thinking when it comes to capturing the wonders of wildlife that surrounds us in town and country. Finalists from two age categories (Under-18s and Over-18s) will be chosen by a panel of expert judges and the winning entries from each category will be chosen by the general public in an online vote!
