'Inspiring Portraits' Competition

In anticipation of our autumn exhibition, 20 Historical Women who Change the World by Chinwe Russell (15 Sep - 19 Nov), we are launching an inspiring portrait competition to celebrate the many wonderful women influencing our everyday lives!

Open to budding artists between the ages of 7 and 21 years, we want you to artistically capture a woman in your life who inspires you. This could be a mum, sister, Granny, best friend, teacher or you could even choose someone in the public eye that you admire! There are no limits on what media you use; from paint to collage or crayon, we would like to see an artistic flair that represents and champions the person who inspires you the most.

One winning portrait will be chosen from three age groups from 7-9 years, 10-14 years and 15-21 years. The overall winning artist will win a unique opportunity to have a 1-to-1 workshop with portrait and Base resident artist, Ellie Kerr-Smiley. They will also have their artwork displayed in our Runway Gallery, printed in the Newbury Weekly News and published on The Base and Corn Exchange’s websites and shared on respective social media platforms.

We want to display the best young artistic talent along with celebrating the inspirational women in our lives, and so the winning entry, along with 2nd prize runners up and Highly Commended entries, will be displayed in The Base’s Runway Gallery.
