Decoding Braille, Decoding Me

Friday 7th Jan 2022 — Sunday 30th Jan 2022, The Base Gallery

Artist Clarke Reynolds turns the tactile form of braille into a visual art form.

Clarke, a Portsmouth based artist, is registered severely sight impaired and this, his second solo-show, is a stunning self-portrait in braille.

Using a colour-coded system, Clarke has created a visual guide to learn braille. With a 'decoder', visitors can explore and translate the canvases on display through sight and touch.

To meet Clarke Reynolds and hear him talk about his work, come to our event at The Base on Saturday 15 January - click here to find out more and book your ticket

Words are vitally important to a visually impaired person as they describe what we see, and as Braille is a tactile language it helps people with low vision to read and communicate.

The ultimate aim of my art is to highlight the importance of Braille to visually impaired people, and therefore to society in general.
