Glass Fusing: Experimental Glass Workshops
Tuesday 3rd Mar 2020 — Tuesday 17th Mar 2020, The Base, The Lookout studio
These four evening glass workshops will give you the opportunity to extend your experience and skills in kiln formed glass.
Each workshop is project based and we will cover a different technique and complete a finished object every week. Once fired you will take home some lovely, unique pieces of glass art; Hand made by you!
In this lesson you will explore a versatile design technique for diluting areas of colour within a composition. We will refresh our experience of glass cutting and learn accurate measuring techniques to create a sheet of art glass using coloured glass and the dilution technique.
The project will incur two firing processes and you will have a variety of slump moulds to select from.
Have you ever heard of Glass Clay? Learn how to make your own glass clay and create intricate shapes and patterns. We will look at a variety of making processes and ideas, using the glass clay, maybe to incorporate into another piece or to make jewellery. An opportunity to experiment with something totally new!
Pâte de Verre
Pâte de Verre in French means ‘paste of glass’. However we will be experimenting with this technique in a non-conventional way. The process will include some refractory mould making, carving and engraving techniques, colour inlays and the use of fine clear frit. The end result will be a very delicate and unique work of Art.
Some glass creates a reaction and changes when it comes into contact with certain colours. We will have a short discussion on the chemistry of different glass and study some test samples. Using this information we will then create a 2D landscape, using reactive glass. We will work with a limited colour palette but you will also have some accessory glass to use. The theme is Landscape; Please bring suitable resources to work from.
Duration: 6pm - 9pm
