Glass Fusing: Garden Lanterns - Summer 2024

Enjoy exploring your creativity through Kiln Formed Glass with Shirley Eccles. During this workshop you will design and make your own unique fused glass lantern for your home or garden.

For this project you will be designing and making 4 glass fused panels for a lantern. The choice of design will be yours. There are many options which will be discussed. Garden and flowers, trees, fish in a ‘tank’ abstract shapes, landscape. Bring some pictures for inspiration. This will then be prepared ready for fusing and slumping.


You will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of colours and materials like stringers, confetti, frits and powders. Your lantern frame is included in the price for this workshop and you will have a choice of how many of the panels you wish to decorate.

During this project you will also be able to develop your glass cutting skills, glass materials and familiarize yourself with the use of a strip cutter.

This course is designed for a range of abilities including beginners

The course starts at 11am and finishes at 5pm with a lunchtime break. Refreshments are available to purchase on site or you may wish to bring your own.

Duration: 11am - 5pm

Materials and Firing costs are included. Once fired your glass art will be returned to The Base for Collection. Please bring with you:

• a sketchbook/notebook and pen
• a dust mask
• an apron
• an old but clean dishcloth is useful
• wear closed-toe shoes
• please bring suitable resources and pictures for ideas
