Glass Fusing: Kiln Carving and Metal Inclusions
Sunday 12th Jul 2020, Lookout Studio
Due to the current situation we are suspending our summer programme of classes and courses and our Box Office team will be in touch with anyone who has already booked. We will restart this work as soon as possible but, in the meantime, please check our homepage where we’ll be releasing online activities and virtual sessions.
In this course you will explore different design and fusing techniques to create lovely unique glass artworks of your own.
They can either be functional or decorative. Enjoy exploring your creativity through Kiln Formed Glass.
Project 1: Kiln Carving: You will learn how to create bas relief and texture in glass. This process involves cutting designs in fibre paper, creating different thicknesses and fusing the glass over your design to create contours and textures giving it a relief and 3D effect.
Project 2: Inclusions: In this project you will experiment with metals that are compatible with glass. Materials like foils, meshes, metal powders and oxides can be used to create interesting designs and you can use copper wire to create a line drawing within your design.
Both these projects are suitable for a further firing to create a shallow dish or you might just wish to use it as a cheese or serving platter or a decorative wall panel. This course is designed for a range of abilities including beginners
