Learn to weave a scarf

Sunday 9th Jun 2024, The Lookout Studio, The Base

Blue and green wool on a weaving loom with hands.

Join Emma Baker and Gillian Siggers of TabbyandTweed to create your own British wool scarf.

You will be using a pre-warped rigid heddle loom and will be taught to weave different colour and weave effects. You will have access to a wide range of different coloured yarns and will go home with a length of fabric sufficient to make a cowl scarf or longer scarf.

This course is suitable for both beginners and those who have woven before who are looking to develop more advanced weaving skills. During the day participants will weave a length of fabric on a pre-warped rigid heddle loom. All equipment and yarn will be provided although a pair of scissors would be helpful. We would expect participants to be able to weave sufficient fabric to make a cowl, table runner and faster weavers will make a scarf which they will be able to take home for washing and finishing.

Beginning weavers will be taught about the loom and how to weave basic tabby weave. For those people who have woven before they will be taught how to develop their weaving skills further with the use of pick up sticks to create more complex patterns.
