Made in the Hood
Friday 22nd Nov 2024 — Sunday 5th Jan 2025, Runway Gallery, The Base
Enjoy an exciting mix of artwork with a contemporary edge by local art collective Made in the Hood based in and around North Hampshire.
Established 12 years ago, the art collective encompass an exciting mix of crafts old and new, with basketry, bobbin wire lace, ceramics, glass, jewellery, painting, sculpture and textiles.
Basket maker, Erica Adams grows her own willow and travels extensively to learn traditional basketry techniques.
Textile artist Christine Highnett uses botanical specimens to eco dye cottons and silks, which are then embroidered. Helen Mortimer’s interest in architecture is expressed in detailed painting on silks.
Classical oil paintings by Tessa Kirby are joined by Pearl Hailstone’s expressive acrylics and Jane Baikie’s experimental approach to mixed media.
Traditional lace making has been given a contemporary twist by Jane Fullman’s use of coloured copper wires. Julie Smith uses CAD to create imagery for her colourful fused glass.
Ceramics are represented by Jo Arkell’s thrown wares, Sally Courage’s coil pots, Teresa Munn’s scripted forms and Helen Williams’ sculptures.
All artwork is for sale. You can see their work in the Runway Gallery from Friday 22 November 2024 - Sunday 5 January 2025 or on www.madeinthehood.co.uk
