Oils Course - Online

During this 10 week course, artists and author, Debrah Martin, will take you step-by-step through the basics of oil painting, including composition, colour-mixing and brush techniques. By the end of the course you will have painted several beautiful pieces in oils.

Course plan:
Week 1:
Getting to know the equipment, paint, colour mixing and some basic painting and composition techniques. You will also make a start on your first painting – a still to practice everything we’ve covered in the basics to week 1.

Weeks 2:
Completing your first painting – a still life to practice composition, brush use and colour-mixing (painting on a 10” x 12” oil canvas board).

Weeks 3 and 4:
Your second painting – a landscape with a spectacular sky (painting on a 10” x 12” oil canvas board).

Weeks 5, 6 and 7:
Your third painting – a seascape with a spectacular sky (painting on a 12” x 16” oil canvas board).

Weeks 8 ,9 and 10:
Your third painting – painting from a photograph of your own choice (painting on a 16” x 20” oil canvas board).

This course will take place online, via Zoom.
How it will work:

  • Download the app Zoom for free via the Appstore.
  • Prior to the event starting, participants will invited to join a Zoom 'meeting' via email. In this email, you will be given a Meeting ID and Password.
  • On the Zoom app, tap 'join meeting'. You will then be prompted to insert a Meeting ID and Password.
  • Type in your Meeting ID and Password. You will then be able to see and hear the practitioner, along with the other participants, and enjoy the sessions.

All places must be booked in advance. Booking closes 24 hours before the course start time. Please note that we reserve the right to cancel any course or workshop if the minimum numbers are not met. If we are not able to run a workshop you will be informed three working days ahead of the course or workshop start date.
