The Base wins National Award for 'Best Art Space'

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have won 'Best Art Space', not only at county level in Berkshire, but at the National level of the Muddy Stiletto Awards 2022!

Earlier in the year we won 'Best Art Space' in Berkshire, as nominated and voted by the public - thank you to everyone who cast a vote for us! In July, Steph (Gallery Manager) and Camilla (Gallery & Events Coordinator) had a wonderful time collecting that award and celebrating with other Berkshire businesses at Sheepdrove Organic Farm.

We were then put forward for the National Muddy Stiletto Award alongside Darl-e and the Bear (Woodstock , Bucks & Oxon), Cotswold Sculpture Park (Cirencester, Glos & Worcs), Compton Verney (Warwickshire, Warks & West Mids) and Jackson Foundation Gallery (Penzance, Cornwall) - incredible company, we're sure you'll agree! We were therefore absolutely blown away to learn that the discerning Muddy editors had chosen The Base Greenham as their overall NATIONAL WINNER due to our "vision, hard work and creativity".

When we set about creating The Base with Greenham Trust and the Corn Exchange Newbury, we envisaged a flagship visual arts venue which would bring high quality visuals arts to the people of West Berkshire and its surrounding counties. We purposefully programmed Wildlife Photographer of the Year from the Natural History Museum London when we opened in February 2019, as a mark in the sand that this was the quality of exhibitions we aspired to bring to this beautiful corner of Berkshire. Earlier this year The Base became a registered charity (1199188) and with that, our aspirations for reaching more people in our community are ever growing.

We hope you'll join us next year by attending an exhibition, visiting our Resident Artists' Studios, participating in a workshop or coming along to our Festival of Arts & Crafts!
