Explore the artwork of the Wessex Downs Artists, a local collective of nature inspired contemporary artists based in West Berkshire and North Hampshire.

Inspired by Nature is an exhibition of paintings that offers a glimpse of the landscapes, birds and flowers from the local surroundings.

Wessex Downs Artists are a group of local contemporary artists who come together throughout the year to showcase art in Newbury and the North Wessex Downs. Exhibiting artists Helen Grimbleby, Helen Cheetham, Michelle N White and Pradeepa David exhibit locally together and often spend time outside painting en plein air in each other’s company, inspired by the local landscape and wildlife.

Pradeepa David’s work features luscious fruit, roses you can almost smell and scenes of Buckler’s Hard on the Beaulieu river. Helen Cheetham’s paintings travel across poppy fields and canal tow paths, tracing her local walks. Michelle N White captures birds in detail and in their wetland surroundings from her sailing journeys and visits to wetland habitats. Helen Grimbleby will take you on a seasonal journey from spring into summer showers and transport you to imagined landscapes with a distinct nod to Turner.

Stunning brushwork, atmosphere and depth are the golden threads that weave through Helen’s nature inspired paintings. Working in oils, acrylic and watercolour, Helen's landscape style sits on the borders of modern impressionism and expressionism. Helen also is a practitioner, running art workshops and courses.

Michelle is a tutor, wildlife and pet portrait artist. Michelle paints detailed, realistic watercolour paintings which capture the delicate beauty of the natural world and landscapes in acrylics. Her work is inspired by deep appreciation for the quiet elegance of British birds, their connection to water and their habitat.

Pradeepa elevates flowers, landscapes and portraits, through vivid colour and light, focusing on subjects that make her heart leap - creating realistic and evocative watercolour paintings that radiate joy. Pradeepa also teaches a range of popular workshops and courses.

Helen’s bold, vibrant and expressive landscapes showcase her love of the outdoors, nature and place, allowing us to share and feel her fascination for and memories of places she has visited. Helen works mainly in acrylic and oil paint but also very much loves working with pastels.
