Perfect for beginners, this course offers the opportunity to learn the basics of oil painting with Richard Francis Bellin.
What to expect:
As an introduction to oil painting, this course is perfect for those with limited or no experience of working with oil paint. Richard will begin by guiding you through the basic principles of oil painting, introducing you to working with oils in preparation, application, techniques to get you started, and taking care of your brushes.
You will work through guided exercises to learn and experiment, with the aim of creating a piece of work that you can feel proud of at the end of the course.
What to bring / wear: For the first lesson Richard will provide the paints, canvases, palette knives, brushes etc, that you will need. However for the following sessions you have to bring your own materials. A small list of materials that Richard recommends for his sessions going forward are:
- Pen
- Pencil
- Notebook
- Sketchbook
- Paint Brushes
- Oil Paints
- Mixing Palette
- Palette knife
- Canvas or Canvas Board
Benefits: The benefit of painting classes extends beyond the canvas. In addition to developing or improving artistic skills, exploring art and creativity can be a therapeutic outlet, for your wellbeing, to encourage self expression and reduce stress. It's also a great opportunity to meet likeminded creatives!
Who is your tutor: Richard Francis Bellin studied Illustration BA(hons) at Southampton University in 2009. He found his calling in fine art painting, creating landscapes and seascapes on a commission basis. Richard has recently rediscovered a love for oils, finding inspiration in the great masters. Having previously used handmade paints which were chalky, quick drying and unmalleable, Richard found comfort working in a free flowing medium with unlimited possibilities. Richard is a multidisciplinary artist, teaching a variety of classes from life drawing to oil painting and illustration, to all ages.
Course dates: Thursdays, 17 Sep - 15 Oct & 5 Nov - 3 Dec (5-week course)
