Talk: Movement in Matter - Intersections of Dance and Ceramics

Join internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer and ceramicist Vidya Thirunarayan for an informal and engaging talk that explores the deep connections between movement and material, body and clay.

What to expect:

This talk offers insight into the inspirations behind a body of work that examines the parallels between dance and pottery. Vidya will share how these two practices inform one another and the performance work that has emerged from this ongoing research.

Open to all, this welcoming session offers entry points into the world of dance through the lens of ceramics, and into pottery through the language of movement. The talk will conclude with a Q&A session. For curious minds, artists, and audiences eager to explore where earth and movement meet.

Included in the evening is the opportunity to visit our Simplicity and Complexity exhibition from 6.30pm while the talk with Vidya will commence from approximately 7pm.

Who is your speaker:

With over 30 years of experience as a performer-maker, Vidya trained at the prestigious Kalakshetra, India and has toured nationally and internationally as Co-Artistic Director of Sankalpam dance company. In 2015, she began a new artistic journey, bringing together her dual practices in dance and ceramics to create a distinctive performance language that crosses disciplinary boundaries while remaining rooted in cultural tradition. This is the focus of her research interests as a research scholar.
