Pots of Hope, Susie

Living and teaching the mindful creative practice of making beautiful and functional ceramics, Susie’s teaching space and shop is based in Studio 7, The Base, Greenham. There’s hope in every pot, helping to infuse each day with optimism.

Susie says, 'I teach open courses, which means I support my students with the skills, knowledge and understanding to develop their own ideas.'

The ethos of ‘Pots of Hope, Susie’ lies in pursuing purposeful creativity which boosts optimism, resilience and wellbeing. Hope, together with growth mindset generates uplifting affirmations connected with every pottery piece Susie makes. Kindness embedded in naturally positive teaching leads to involved flow-state learning and intrinsic reward.

Susie sees ‘Hope’ as an energy, an action and a key. Clay is the earth-given, humble and humbling resource of endless possibilities. Combining the ingredients of water, air, and fire with clay fuels the soul through active meditation and naturally prompts mindful living.

Motivated by a love of the squish of clay, and with an inclination to find the best in things, ‘Pots of Hope’ came into being when Susie restored an old potter’s wheel to return to her meditative focus of centring self-with-clay. Her Philosophy, Education and Outreach caters to everybody – of all ages and abilities. Nurturing playful creativity in learning is what shapes her pottery process, classes, and products. She hosts private tuition, regular group courses, and a variety of lovely workshops.

Feedback from Susie’s students consistently recommends “if you are in any doubt as to whether to pursue a clay class or course, you should just come along and have a go - you will not regret it!”

Private events and parties can be organised throughout the year, by contacting Susie directly. These include children’s parties, family gatherings, live demonstrations and ‘have-a-go’ events, as well as corporate team building, social events and continuing professional development training.
