Miró-Inspired Family Day at The Base

This Easter holidays, on Tuesday 8 April (10am - 5pm), we will be welcoming families with children of all ages to experience the works of one of the 20th century's most influential and recognisable artists, Joan Miró.

We know the positive impact creative experiences have on young people’s futures, and also recognise that introducing children to the wonders of art galleries at a young age can feel a bit daunting!

So our Family Day is the perfect opportunity to explore The Base with other families milling around too: view the Gallery exhibition, follow a Miró-inspired trail around the building peeking inside our artist studios, and boost your children’s creativity and imagination with free art and craft activities.

Get ready to immerse yourself in colour, shapes, and boundless creativity, all while bonding over activities that inspire, educate, and entertain!

The centre of our Gallery will be transformed into a creative space for families, and filled with free art and craft activities linked to the exhibition. You could make your own artwork with our fuzzy felt activity, or get creative in our colouring and drawing activities. Don’t worry about the rules—just let your imagination run wild with bold lines, stars, moons, and quirky shapes.

Look carefully at the artwork and spot special symbols to become a ‘gallery detective’ or form your own Miró-shaped art with our ‘Roll a Miró’ dice game.

Whether you and your children simply want to look at beautiful artwork and spend quality time together, or you want to explore the mysteries and dreamscapes within Joan Miró’s inspiring work, the Family Day will provide plenty of indoor half-term fun.
